किशन पटनायक (जन्म: 1929 निधन 27 सितंबर, 2004) सक्रिय राजनैतिक कार्यकर्ता होने के साथ-साथ एक प्रखर विचारक भी थे। 32 वर्ष की उम्र में 1962 में संबलपुर से लोकसभा के सदस्य निर्वाचित हुए और उन्होंने संसद में देश की मूल समस्याओं – गरीबी, अभाव, कुपोषण से जुड़े सवालों को उठाया। जीवनपर्यंत वह देश की भ्रष्ट राजनीति, समाजनीति और अर्थनीति के खिलाफ लगातार बोलते, लिखते और आंदोलन करते रहे। एक युवा समाजवादी नेता के रूप में अखिल भारतीय समाजवादी युवजन सभा के अध्यक्ष चुने गए थे। 1969 में समाजवादी आंदोलन के दिग्भ्रमित और अवसरवादी होने पर वह संसोपा से अलग हुए और तबसे मुख्यधारा की राजनीति का एक सार्थक विकल्प बनाने के प्रयास में जुटे रहे। कई साथियों के साथ 1972 में लोहिया विचार मंच की स्थापना की। 1975 में इमरजेंसी विरोधी आंदोलन में भाग लेने पर बंदी बनाए जाने के पहले भी जनआंदोलनों में अपनी सक्रिय भूमिका के कारण सात-आठ बार गिरफ्तार किए गए। 1995 में जनआंदोलनों के समन्वय की प्रक्रिया के दौरान समाजवादी जन परिषद नाम के एक राजनैतिक दल की स्थापना हुई तो वे उसके प्रथम अध्यक्ष निर्वाचित हुए। 1977 से लगातार निकलनेवाली समाजवादी पत्रिका ‘सामयिक वार्ता’ के मृत्युपर्यंत प्रधान संपादक रहे। हिंदी और ओड़िया में कविताएँ भी लिखीं।
उनके लेखों के चार संग्रह प्रकाशित हैं- भारत शूद्रों का होगा, विकल्पहीन नहीं है दुनिया, भारतीय राजनीति पर एक दृष्टि, किसान आंदोलन : दशा और दिशा।
किशन पटनायक की अधूरी आत्मकथा, लोकसभा में उनके द्वारा उठाए गए मुद्दों, उनके कुछ पत्र, कुछ लेख और उनकी कविताओं के जरिए उनके व्यक्तित्व एवं आत्मअन्वेषण को प्रकट करने की कोशिश है यह पुस्तक। इसके जरिए अपने परिचित किशन पटनायक को हम थोड़ा और जान पाएँगे।
